Mr. Larry Gibbs, Member of ECSEI Board of Directors

Larry Gibbs is Associate Vice-Provost for Environmental Health and Safety at Stanford University, where he is responsible for all health, safety, and environmental risk management programs in addition to oversight of institutional emergency planning and risk communication. Stanford has over 2500 laboratories on its campus involved in research ranging from basic sciences, to nanomaterials to medicine and clinical research. Larry is also a lecturer in occupational safety and health at the Stanford Institute for the Environment. Prior to his appointment at Stanford, he held positions with similar responsibility at Yale University and at the University of Connecticut. He has graduate degrees in education from Boston University and in industrial hygiene and public health from the University of Michigan.

Mr. Gibbs is a certified industrial hygienist with over 25 years of experience in developing, implementing and managing safety, health and environmental programs for academic, research and clinical institutions. In addition to his work at the universities, he serves as a consultant for industrial, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and government organizations. He has authored over 25 publications on health, safety and environmental management, and co-authored two books. Larry is active in a number of professional organizations. He is currently Vice Chair of the ACGIH®, on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Environmental Managers (NAEM), and is active in the American Industrial Hygiene Association, where he founded the Laboratory Health and Safety Committee. He is also a member of the Board of Delegates of the National Safety Council and has served on the Executive Council of the Campus Safety Health and Environmental Management Association as well as on the Board of the American Biological Safety Association.
