Douglas B. Walters, Ph.D., CSP is President of KCP Inc., a consulting company in Raleigh, NC specializing in laboratory health and safety, laboratory ventilation and hoods, industrial hygiene, training, and technical writing. He was Director of Laboratory Health and Safety for the National Toxicology Program (NTP) for 20 years at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS, NIH), was an adjunct associate professor in the Program of Public Health at Old Dominion University, and is on the faculty of the University of North Carolina's School of Public Health's NIOSH Education and Resource Center. Doug is on the editorial board of the ACS Journal of Chemical Health and Safety and has been a reviewer and served on the editorial boards for several publishers and is the Scientific Director of the Advisory Board of Flow Sciences, Inc. in Wilmington, NC.
Dr. Walters received his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Georgia and his B.S. and M.S. in chemistry from Long Island University and is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP). He is the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) Liaison to the American Chemical Society (ACS), was the co-chair of the ANSI Z 9.5 Laboratory Ventilation Subcommittee, is a member of numerous AIHA and ACS committees, and is a past Chair of the ACS Division of Chemical Health and Safety and of the ACS Northeast Georgia Section. Dr. Walters has lectured internationally, received two ACS awards, three AIHA awards, and three government awards for laboratory health and safety and has authored about 170 publications, which include 57 books and book chapters, 9 electronic books and 1 video, and about 100 journal articles and one patent.
